Mr. Carpenter is the founder and principal analyst at ArchaeoMetrics. Prior to this, he spent 4.5 years as Director of the Obsidian Hydration Laboratory for the ArchaeologicalResearchCenter at CSU, Sacramento. During that time, he processed thousands of obsidian hydration samples and developed his skills in visually sourcing various obsidians using macro- and microscopic characteristics.
Mr. Carpenter received his Masters degree from
CaliforniaStateUniversity, Chico in December of 2002. While at Chico, his research focused on the analysis of animal remains from archaeological contexts and in determining season of death from fish vertebrae using modern thin section techniques. He received his B.A. from the University of California, Davis. From 1993 – 1998 Tim worked as a staff archaeologist for Far Western Anthropological Research Group, Inc.
